"The Use of the Name"
Matthew 1:21-23 King
21Â And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall
save his people from their sins.
22Â Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by
the prophet, saying,
23Â Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call
his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God with us.
Note: The deity of Jesus is the crux of Christianity; this is what the devil today is
challenging. If Jesus is not deity he is not Lord and if he is not lord he cannot
interact with our moral activities. If he is not lord, all built around his name must
be destroyed.
I. WHATS DOES THE NAME REQUIRE OF US or WHAT POWER DOES THIS NAME GIVES US
You can’t separate the name of Jesus from salvation; Acts 4:12 says there is no
other name given among men wherein we must be saved. It is through this name
that sinners approach God.
Not only are we saved by the name, but we are baptized into the name, and on the
basics of the name, we receive the gift of the holy spirit. But he also gives us the
use of his name in prayer
John 14:13-15
13Â And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be
glorified in the Son.
14Â If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
15Â If ye love me, keep my commandments.
John 16:24
24Â Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your
joy may be full.
Remember, we saw in Acts 3:1 that the cripple man healed in the name, men are
baptized in the name, and men pray in the name. In Act 16:18, we see Paul cast out
demons in that name.
Matthew 18:20
20Â For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst
of them.
What the church has lost over the years is the fact that when the early church came
together, they were taught they were meeting around the name of Jesus, it makes
us aware of who we are meeting and the power we have over demons.
Colossians 3:17
17Â And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
We are taught to do everything in that name
1 Corinthians 6:11
11Â And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are
justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
The name of Jesus has secured us all that we have beginning with our being
justified or made right or righteous in the name.
Hebrews 13:15
15Â By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the
fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name
Listen its through the authority and power of the name of Jesus that we do what we
do, his name gives us permission.
James 5:14
14Â Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray
over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord
1 John 3:23
23Â And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son
Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
(HIS COMMANDMENT WAS TO LOVE ON ANOTHER AND BELIEVE ON
THE NAME)
